Varberg and 505 Sailing
After a windless motoring day we arrived at Varberg about 2 pm. We were going there for a few days to see Michael, Chris’s brother, racing in the 505 World sailing Championships. Great to see Michael and Marise and meet some of their sailing buddies. Asif, a Spanish friend of ‘The Quirks’, turned up and came out as well.
We watched them all go out on Tuesday and then on the Wednesday we took some people out on Quirky to watch the racing.
Couldn’t leave on Friday as too windy, or Saturday, or Sunday.
Graham and Martin, two of the British sailors, stayed on the boat with us over the weekend as it was so windy and wet that their tent wasn’t keeping them dry. In return they very kindly took us into Varburg for dinner. Drinks at Hookens on the waterfront then burgers at Hells Burgers. Bit of a bumpy ferry ride in and out but a great evening.
Spent a couple of days cycling around the area and also catching the small, 12 person, ferry into town. Reprovisioned and got ready to leave on Friday 9/8/24
Chris, quite rightly, was very worried about the boat as we were being blown all over the place. We had all our fenders and numerous lines out. Needless to say not much sleep over that week. The racing was also a disaster as they only managed 2 days racing out of 5- one no wind and 2 days too much !!. Enough races though to produce a winner an Australian team won.
